Hair Transplant

Hair grows in small groups called follicular units. Each unit contains one to five hairs. It is important to preserve the integrity of these groups at the time of dissection.

In Ambulatory Surgery Clinic "Silhouette" We use the latest technology that exist for a hair transplant:

  • FUSS: Follicular Unit Strip Surgery
    • This technique removes a strip of scalp from the donor area (neck) and while the surgeon stitches the wound, assistants extracted (using the microscope) each of the follicular units are implanted.
    • In follicular unit transplantation, the donor hair is obtained by removing a strip of scalp from an area where the hair is immune to baldness and does not have hormone receptors which when stimulated by DHT (di-hydro-testorerona) cause hair loss.
    • Each follicular unit strip that contains one to four hairs.
    • The follicular unit transplantation is very efficient because several thousands of grafts are obtained from a single donor strip area.
    • The production of follicular grafts in two stages: first, cutting the ellipse (donor strip) in small sections, and then dissect the follicular units.
    • Before long, the scar from the donor area is covered by the hair around it and while there is a brand, will be negligible unless the patient shave the area. They are transplanted between 1000 and 2500 follicular units for each intervention.

    • After shaving the donor area, making a cut with a scalpel to form a "strip" of scalp.
    • The "strip" with follicular units are extracted and instantly closed with stitches.
    • The scar will be covered by the hair around it, will be invisible in a short time.
    • In the same operation, the strip is placed under the microscope to extract each follicular unit.

  • FUE: Follicular Unit Extraction
    • In this case, the procedure is much more complex because there are no cuts of any kind. To remove the hair, the surgeon uses a scalpel but with a special tool that removes each follicular unit directly from the scalp.
    • Somehow, pulls "mouthfuls" of scalp and each contains a follicular unit. The advantage is that there are no scars of any kind, even in patients who choose to shave his head. No strips or tears, only small bites that after healing, they disappear. It is clear that in a few weeks, the hair will cover the entire neighboring area and any mark that might exist will be absolutely imperceptible.
    • While this technique appears superior to the former, we must bear in mind that is much more expensive, the amount of hair transplants is lower (2000 maximum per session) and the procedure takes longer.
    • The surgeon isolates the hair you want to extract and with the help of a tool, produces a tiny incision around the follicle.
    • The process is repeated several times and then, by means of a clamp extracted follicular units that will be implemented
    • After removing the hair from the donor area, the surgeon produces hundreds of incisions (smaller than a pinhead) which finally put the follicular units.

HAIR TRANSPLANT: STEP BY STEP
Your hair transplant will be a rewarding experience. Our team will keep you comfortable, relaxed and informed during the intervention.

When You Arrive
When you arrive, you will be greeted in the morning by a member of our team. You will fill out some forms while the surgeon and technicians prepare for surgery. A technician will check your blood pressure and you have correctly followed the instructions in the preoperative period.

Procedure Review
Before surgery, the doctor will check again your goals and expectations and will work with you to determine the most effective way of placing the donor hair. This review doctor / patient is an integral part of the process: the doctor listens to your desires and ideas are ignored, and then makes suggestions based on thousands of previous interventions. The surgery begins when you are satisfied with the design approach and decided by the doctor.

Removal of Donor Area
The surgery begins with a series of injections of local anesthesia in the donor area. By means of anesthesia make sure you do not feel any pain. When the area is asleep, the doctor will begin to remove the donor strip. This procedure takes about 45 minutes, where you will remain lying face down on the table similar to those used for massage.

Once the strip is removed from the scalp, the doctor will close the incision using stainless steel surgical staples, designed for cosmetic surgery. While the doctor is closing the area, technicians begin to separate the follicular units of the strip.

Creation of the grafts
Our technicians dissect the follicular units (groups 1 to 4 hairs) from the donor area.

Implantation of the Grafts
During this part of the procedure remain almost sitting on the couch. Meanwhile, place the incisions the surgeon to place the grafts, you can talk to us or if you prefer we can make more pleasant sedation for this session.

After the session, rest long enough in our post-operative and be able to return home to begin their normal life in the next 24 hours.

Postoperative
During the first week, the donor (FUSS) feels tight and may even disturb a little. Some people feel the whole sector as if asleep.

In the implanted area begin to form crusts and some areas may appear red.

The swelling usually frontotemporal area and in many cases, the swelling reaches the face. However, this does not last more than a week.

On the seventh or eighth day the donor and not bother at best perceived a lower sensitivity.

In the implanted area, much of the scabs have disappeared. If there is still swelling, is very mild and not bothersome.

At two weeks, remove the points that hold the donor area. The scabs will have disappeared completely and start growing hair in place.

Before the second month, the transplanted hair follicles falls while remaining in the telogen phase.

In many cases, the donor continues to red, with little sensitivity. The hair around the scar begins to cover the entire visible mark.

Between the second and fourth month, the hair was transplanted but not in the receiving area tends to fall. Let the hair "neighbors" to the implants may fall off. Do not be alarmed, it is absolutely normal.

The donor regain sensation and redness begins to disappear.

From the fourth month, the transplanted hair begins to grow. At first it is very fine but the quality will change dramatically in the coming months. The donor site is normal. No redness or loss of sensitivity.

Around the fifth month, the hair "neighbor" who fell growth phase begins. In the FOLLOWING months will be fully recovered.

From the eighth month sees a change in hair texture, begins to thicken and transplant results are truly visible. Hair "neighbor" is also recovered.

Only when it is over about a year and a half, you will see the final results of transplantation.

Conclusion
There is no doubt that hair transplantation is an effective and definitive against hair loss. It clearly demonstrates that the causes of the fall will not have to do with the blood supply because the transplanted follicular units are exactly the same place as those affected by alopecia, but are directly related to DHT receptors of the follicles.
